I come from a varied background, which includes journalism, psychology and design. I find that the combination of these three fields has really influenced and supported my overall design skills. Obviously, having a writing background is a sought after trait for any designer. Being able to visually and verbally attend to all my work makes for a better product. Being able to understand how people view, experience and interpret my work is also a little bonus of having a psych degree.
For the last 7 years I've been freelancing part time for mostly identity and web design. I first started designing while in college (University of Wisconsin-Madison); there I designed promotional posters and marketing materials for a range of live events booked at the university. I also designed and laid out a few college publications as well as designed album art and merchandise for local bands. Recently I finished the postbachelor's design program at the Chicago Portfolio School; there I designed a variety of marketing materials, identity pieces/logos and web sites. I've interned at Flow Creative (Chicago, via the CPS program) and at Zillman Idea Design (Madison, WI).
